DIY Scalp Massage for Your Stressed-Out Hair and Body –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.

DIY Scalp Massage to Reduce Stress

To stimulate the cells and blood flow, a daily basic DIY scalp massage along with a weekly deep scalp massage is absolutely essential. Get in the habit and you’ll find that along with the benefits of healthy growing hair, you’ll reduce stress. Reduce stress = Reduced hair loss.

Daily DIY Scalp Massage

Beginning with the top of your forehead, use your fingertips and gently rub your hairline, forming little circles. Continue the circular massage along the sides toward the back of your head.

Massage in the small circular motion from the back nape of your neck up to the crown of your head, ending in the front -where you started. You can massage your own scalp for this type of basic massage. If you don’t have any serious health issues, you can bend down and let the blood stimulate your roots, as well, but this is optional. Remember: only 4-5 minutes twice a day are needed (morning/night) and a daily consistent routine.

DIY Scalp Massage Variations

Hot Oil Hair Massage Therapy

Before going to bed (or anytime you have an extra 6-8 hours to wear a plastic cap), massage hot oil into your scalp (Be careful not to make it too hot-should still be able to touch it without scalding your fingers).  It can be organic Moroccan Argan oil, almond, coconut, EEVO (extra-virgin olive oil or any other oil known for promoting healthy hair growth. The only exception might be castor oil, which due to its thickness, is best applied to the scalp and hair roots only.

Cover hair with a plastic cap or wrap and hair bonnet/scarf. (Sleep on a towel to protect pillow from possible leaking). In the morning, (before bathing) mix a little lemon juice and acv (apple cider vinegar) together and apply it to your scalp, dabbing with a soft cloth.  Leave on for about 5 minutes and rinse out. Wash hair with Lustrous Henna Dry Shampoo Powder (made into a paste). Cover hair with plastic cap. Leave shampoo powder on hair for 5 minutes and rinse out. This will also help prevent dandruff and hair loss.

Conditioning Hair Mask Massage

Beat 2 eggs with 2 tablespoons of water. Apply to WET hair. While egg mixture is on your hair, perform the basic circular scalp massage. Leave mixture on for another 10-15 minutes. Rinse hair with lukewarm water, followed by Lustrous Henna Dry Shampoo Powder (made into a paste). Cover hair with plastic cap.  Leave shampoo powder on hair for 5 minutes and rinse out. This will help prevent dandruff and hair loss.

Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds in water at bedtime. In the morning, grind up the softened seeds into a paste. Apply paste to scalp and hair. Cover with plastic cap for 30 minutes. Rinse out paste. Follow up with Pure Shikakai Powder or Pure Reetha Powder Organic Wash.

Beauty Secret Revealed- Lustrous Henna® Hair All-Natural Dye

Beauty Secret Revealed- Lustrous Henna® Hair All-Natural Dye –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Share Your Lustrous Henna® Beauty Secret

What if your beauty secret could benefit countless other men and women desperately seeking what you have in your possession? Would you REALLY share your best-kept beauty secret? Lustrous Henna® is a beauty secret that many men and women love to keep to themselves. Let’s face it. It’s FUN keeping this kind of secret.

Think of the joy you felt the first time you used Lustrous Henna®. Could you share that joy with others? There are so many other men and women that would really appreciate a natural alternative to harsh chemical hairdyes. The joy just gets greater the more you share it with others.

Lustrous Henna® Beauty Secret Revealed

“I’m a 54 yrs. old “natural” brunette and LOVE Lustrous Henna® and their wonderful customer service with Syed. A few months ago I was diagnosed with Lymphoma at Mayo Clinic with follow up 3 mos. visits to a Hematologist, blood specialist there. I then began to think about changing some of my lifestyle habits and a NATURAL Hair Color was an easy one to change. I am not on chemo since my Dr. says my own immune system is trying to fight this cancer. Chemo kills the good and the bad; therefore I’m thankful I do still have my hair at this time.

My friend introduced me to Lustrous Henna® when I complemented her hair. I didn’t even know she used any type of color on it, because it looked so natural. She ordered my first time with her order, to try it out. So I have twice now, due to shorter hair. So glad I heard about this henna from her!

I am thankful for the Lustrous Henna’s shorter process time compared to others that require an extremely longer process and it leaves my hair in much, much better condition than when I did salon color.  My single priority, due to my health issue, is that it’s safe, plus it looks and feels so natural and healthy. I can’t say enough good about it.

Beauty Secret Revealed- Lustrous Henna® Hair All-Natural Dye –by L.J. O’Neal, writer. It was my pleasure to visit with Syed a few days ago about Lustrous Henna®. His patience and very informative manner is so helpful and refreshing. He is an asset to Lustrous Henna® products. He helped me a great deal with tips on how to tone the gray as it grows in from my root line.

I sincerely thank you, Syed and Lustrous Henna® for the difference you have made in my life.

I’ll be ordering again soon.”
Warmest Regards,
Twyla R.  Greene IA

Thanks in advance for sharing your experience and sincere comments.
They’re guaranteed to make a difference in the life of someone currently looking for an alternative solution to using chemical hair dye.

Flaxseed Oil Hair Treatment for Nourished Hair

Flaxseed Oil Hair Treatment for Nourished Hair –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Flaxseed Oil Benefits Hair and Scalp

Flaxseed oil contains an abundance of Omega-3 fatty acids contributes to healthy hair growth. It’s known to revitalize the scalp in part due to its anti-inflammatory properties. The essential fatty acids have been known to combat psoriasis and eczema. Flaxseed oil, when taken as a dietary supplement, also promotes shiny, radiant and healthy hair.

Flaxseed oil can be found in whole food markets and other all-natural or herb stores. You can make your own at a fraction of the price and make sure it’s stored in amber glass instead of black plastic, but you will have to invest in a (cold) oil press extractor.

Flaxseed Oil Hair Conditioning Treatment

Flaxseeds, like other seeds and oils in your kitchen have been used for centuries to strengthen, regrow hair and to eliminate dandruff. Application is simple and when used along with the natural botanical powders at Saba Botanical of USA.

Nourished Hair Loves Scalp Massage

Why is scalp massage important in our hair care? When you increase circulation to your scalp, blood flows freely and allows nutrients to reach your hair follicles, which usually leads to hair growth. You only 4-5 minutes daily scalp massage  and a consistent hair maintenance routine.1

*Suggestion: Vary the oils used and include flaxseed oil as a hot oil scalp treatment before shampooing or co-washing hair.

1Some individuals suggest lying back (with head down) or bending forward to rush the blood to your scalp to increase circulation, thereby rapidly increasing hair growth (inversion method) –however there is no real scientific evidence to prove that this is an effective way of growing hair quickly. Additionally, this can be dangerous for individuals with medical issues such as: low blood pressure, high blood pressure, pregnancy, diabetes; or being affected by dizziness or light-headedness.

Pure Indigo in Natural Hair Dye for Brown to Jet Black Hair.

Pure Indigo for Jet-Black Hair
-or my former secret for hiding those stubborn gray hairs!

This is a moment of BRAVERY. As I’m writing this, I’m thinking about later today when I’ll be following up my Lustrous Henna® Soft Black application with Pure Indigo Powder. Why? Because I have VERY STUBBORN GRAYS and I love jet-black hair! Lustrous Henna® Soft Black is a nice color that already contains some pure indigo powder (it’s actually my natural hair color). However, with one application, my grays end up being a golden brown and I want jet-black hair. I could apply Lustrous Henna® Soft Black for a 2nd time, if I wanted my short hair to be my natural soft black. However, did I mention? I love jet-black hair.

L.J. O'Neal's Gray Cover Secret Revealed. Pure Indigo in Natural Hair Dye for Brown to Jet Black Hair –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.
How I do it:
When I’m mixing the Lustrous Henna®, I always add 1 teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar, before application. I stay under the dryer for an hour. Before I rinse out the Lustrous Henna®, I mix a workable paste of Pure Indigo Powder and hot tap water (adding a sprinkle of sea salt to speed up natural dye activation). I usually add a drop of lavender, rosemary, basil and/or ylang ylang oil to mask the ‘hay’ smell, (optional). After rinsing my hair, I apply the pure indigo paste; cover with plastic wrap/cap; then again, sit under the bonnet hair dryer for an hour. Rinse out and I always love the results! Voila: jet-black hair! (The next day it’s even better after totally oxidizing.) As far as hair styling is concerned: it’s quite obvious that I let my hair do what it wants.

How you can do it: Test a small patch of hair first to make sure you like the results.
This is messy and indigo can stain, so having an assistant is best (along with protecting all surfaces). Of course, you can follow my own personal method or follow the package instructions. You can experiment with all-natural Lustrous Henna® in a different shade of red or brown. Just remember, pure henna can only color your hair to bring out your natural highlights and/or darken your hair. Being a totally natural plant dye, it cannot make your hair lighter than your natural color, but it may bring out highlights you never knew you had.

Detailed Instructions about henna and indigo application.

Using the Indigo Plant as a Natural Hair Dye
Indigo dye is made from processing the plant’s leaves by soaking them in water and allowing them to ferment. This converts the natural glycoside indicant into the dye, indigotin. It can then be pressed into cakes, dried and powdered; then used in natural hair dye. When used properly with pure henna, indigo dye will create shades ranging from brown to intensely black hair. It also makes hair soft and silky to the touch.

Pure henna powder and the crushed leaves of the indigo plant have been used for centuries to make what I love: jet-black henna hair dye. Both are currently available for anyone desiring brown or black hair from a natural hair dye made in the traditional manner (time-consuming); or the timesaving method I described above.

Stop Hair Breakage by Changing Bad Habits in 3 Ways

Stop Hair Breakage by Changing Bad Habits in 3 Ways –L.J. O’Neal, writer.

Stop Hair Breakage by Changing Bad Habits

Overuse of heating appliance, unprotected hair when sleeping on cotton, tight hats, pulling your hair, harsh brushing and combing, shampooing too much, not conditioning enough, allowing split-ends, poor diet, continued use of chemical dyes, relaxers, bleaches and more –all can cause hair breakage. Therefore, these are things that must be avoided and be replaced with healthier hair care habits.

Protect to Stop Hair Breakage

Protect your hair from permanent hair dye. Chemical hair dye penetrates the cuticle of the hair, damaging it. The hair is exposed to para-phenylenediamine (PPD), hydrogen peroxide, ammonia and other harsh chemicals, causing overlapping of cuticular seates to lift from the hair cortex, thereby leading to rapid loss of amino acid. By removing the proteins that build the structural strength, the hair shaft is weakened with every application. The chemical damage results in an easily fractured hair shaft and eventual hair loss.

Dermatologists have recommended the use of all natural pure henna for hair to prevent potential scalp allergy and hair loss caused by the overuse of chemical hair color dyes. Pure henna coats the hair and doesn’t penetrate the hair shaft.

Keep hydrated internally. Drink plenty of water. Nourish your hair like you nourish your skin. This will help to keep your hair soft and lustrous. Hydrate for proper skin care and hair care.

Lock in moisture.Moisturizing hair care tip: use a light leave-in conditioner (daily if you have curly hair; rinse in cooler water to seal in moisture).

DIY light homemade leave-in conditioner: simply add enough water to current conditioner, mix well, spray a little in your hand and rub through hair or spritz on hair with a spray bottle.

Avoid cleansing shampoos that strip and cause extra dryness and frizziness. Shampoo less often with mild shampoo or try a conditioner-only wash (co-wash).

Maintain to Stop Hair Breakage

Eat a well-balanced diet. Iron-rich, protein foods, as well as those containing Vitamin C, Vitamin B-6, B-12, Foliate and Zinc will do much to improve scalp and overall hair condition. A healthy diet should be the norm. Fast foods should be dramatically reduced or even eliminated.

Establish a routine of hair maintenance; over time it becomes a very simple process. Shampooing and conditioning with the proper products (preferably natural), daily hair care; deep conditioning; snipping split ends when needed, will do much for our hair from roots to ends.

A word of caution about clipping split ends: If you want grow longer hair, never clip more than 1/4” (inch) per month. If you do, you’ll literally be cutting away your new hair growth! Remember: most hair grows about 1/2” (inch) per month, totaling six (6) inches a year. Do the math. Actually, a tiny snipping every 2-3 months is all that is really necessary.

An occasional hot-oil treatment restores moisture balance; adds suppleness to hair. Natural herbal oils such as extra-virgin olive oil, organic coconut oil, cold-pressed castor oil and flaxseed oil are known to help strengthen, regrow hair and to eliminate dandruff.

Style to Stop Hair Breakage

Gentle brushing: Using a non-abrasive hairbrush (with nylon bristles or natural boar bristles or similar) to gently massage in hair oils encourages scalp stimulation to slightly increase hair growth; and blood to reach follicle at the root. Healthy circulation promotes better hair growth.

Be careful: try and avoid styles that constantly pull and tear your roots (tight braids, tight ponytails, etc.)

If you must braid: loose braids are best day or night.  If you braid your hair before sleeping, satin helps braiding by reducing friction from hair against fabric fibers, thus protecting against breakage. Simply cover hair or braid(s) with a satin sleep bonnet, satin bun cover or using a satin pillow protects your braids.

Use safe hair accessories: these are accessories that won’t undo all the healthy hair care that you’ve worked so hard to achieve. Avoid unsafe hair accessories can tear your hair out, cause severe hair breakage and cause extreme damage to your hair.

Of course, there are a number of other hair care protection, maintenance and style tips that I have written about previously. However, the above reminders are basic tips that have been proven to work to stop hair breakage.

Change those bad habits and enjoy healthy and beautiful hair.

Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) Allergic Reaction -Sufferers’ Warning!

Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in Hair Dye:
The Warning

Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) Allergic Reaction Sufferers Warning! –by L.J. O’Neal, writer
Perhaps you read of the sad tragic death of Tabitha McCourt, who was only 17 years old when she died from a severe dermatological allergic reaction to hair dye, a few years ago. Her death was relatively quick and shocking to everyone, as reported in the UK’s Daily Mail journal.

Even though an actual death from hair dye is rare, allergic reactions to hair dye are increasing, in recent years. The main culprit is the chemical Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in Hair Dye. Did you know that several European countries have actually banned this dangerous chemical in hair dye? Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) is not the only substance that causes allergic contact dermatitis, but it’s the main one.

Did you know that EVERY time you use chemical-based hair dye, you risk getting allergic contact dermatitis? That’s because a severe dermatological allergic reaction can happen at any time. This means that just because you’ve never experienced a reaction in the past, doesn’t mean you’ll never suffer the sad consequences. The risk increases EVERY time you use chemical-based hair dye. I should know, it happened to me.

Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) Allergic Reaction Sufferers Warning! –by L.J. O’Neal, writerThe Voice of a Few Sufferers

The following were comments made on a petition1 initiated by Nadra K. Nittle of Change.org that are meant to prove that validity of the warning about Para-phenylenediamine (PPD) in Hair Dye.

“Following a trip to get my hair colored, I ended up in the emergency room after my face swelled to twice its normal size. It took more than a week and a course of steroids and antihistamines for me to recover. I’d colored my hair before with no trouble.” –N.K.Nittle

“I am a professional colorist, and understand the complexities of hair color and allergic reaction. There is no need for many of the harsh chemicals companies dump into product.” –Susan F.

“My daughter suffered a severe reaction to a hair tint that she gets on a regular basis. What a fright. This happened on the 2nd of October, 6 days before Tabatha McCourt. I am now terrified for my daughter or myself to ever get our hairs dyed again. Why, why, why don’t the so-called makers of these deadly hair dyes just eliminate the killer ppd from the dyes????” –Donna D.

“I’ve had numerous allergic reactions and have also been in hospital due to coming in contact with PPD. I’d never wish the side effects on my worst enemy – get rid of it!!!!” –Rach W.

“My daughter and my sister are allergic, I am very concerned about the issue of allergies and especially for those that are causing entirely preventable deaths. –Pilar J.

BE SAFE. Use 100% All-Natural Plant-based Hair Color Dye

All men and women deserve to be safe when coloring their hair and therefore should avoid the potential dangers of using synthetic chemical hair dye. Your health should be a priority –even when dying your hair.

Healthy Hair from Nuts –Seriously?

Healthy Hair from Nuts –Seriously –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Get Healthy Hair from Nuts

There are several foods that provide essential nourishment for healthy, supple hair. Additionally, a variety of nuts will give your dry hair a boost and encourage hair growth. Remember that on average, hair will grow ¼ to ½ inch each month. So if you want to promote more healthy hair growth, include some healthy nuts in your diet.

Even though 100% all natural herbal hair care products help grow and maintain healthy hair, a diet of essential nutrients and protein rich foods, will further enhance your all-natural beauty. Of course, if you are allergic to nuts, then there are other dietary sources you can ingest that will also supply the nutrients for healthy hair that nuts provide.

Healthy Hair from Nuts –Seriously –by L.J. O’Neal, writer.Benefits of Nuts in Your Healthy Hair Diet

  • Keratin: Healthy hair is full of keratin. Nuts provide protein and it helps your body produce keratin. Make sure your body receives and produces keratin naturally.
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Walnuts contain alpha- linoleic acid that can help condition hair.
  • Vitamin E:  Nuts are rich in vitamin E. As an antioxidant, vitamin E aids in repair and building tissue; also stimulates blood circulation in the scalp; can prevent premature graying of hair; when used topically: at the roots, vitamin E minimizes inflammation and repairs damaged follicles; when applied to the hair strand, vitamin E adds luster to hair and repairs split ends.
  • Selenium: Selenium is a trace mineral that helps promote a healthy scalp, hair growth and stops hair loss. Brazil nuts are a good source of selenium.
  • Biotin: Avoid brittle hair! Walnuts, peanuts and almonds contain biotin, and essential B vitamin that helps maintain a healthy scalp and promotes hair growth.
  • Zinc:  Strengthen hair follicles with zinc, found in cashews, pecans, almonds and walnuts.
  • Copper: Walnuts contain this trace element that helps to produce melanin to maintain hair color.
  • Calcium: This important mineral strengthens hair and stimulates healthy hair growth. Almonds are an excellent source of calcium; only one ounce contains as much calcium as ¼ cup of milk.

Don’t Overdo it

All you really need to eat is a handful of nuts. You can add them to your favorite meals to add great texture. Eat them regularly, but there is no need to overindulge. So, work on building stronger cells and growing healthier hair through a diet that contains: nuts!
